Update - Kaepernick and Reid have settled their collusion case with the NFL. There’s a confidentiality agreement as part of the settlement, so no official statement (and no rumors yet that I can find) as to the amount and terms of the settlement. They were due to go before an arbitrator next month.
Not surprised. My guess at the beginning was if Kaepernick could keep the lawsuit alive to the discovery phase then the NFL/teams would seek a deal. I cannot imagine they would ever let Kapernick’s lawyers start digging through their communications and finances.
That said I am only guessing with the above. No idea how or why it played out as it did.
Seems unfunny and in poor taste, so not really much like the Onion.
The Onion does plenty of stuff in poor taste, but the Onion doesn’t punch down. This one isn’t that funny because it’s punching down.
I take great joy in believing that CK probably got more money in his settlement than what most of his knuckle-dragging detractors will ever see in their lifetimes.
I’d be surprised if the settlement was for less than $30 million.
The amount will leak sooner or later. Now the anti-Kaepernick goons are deriding him for taking a settlement because it somehow proves he wasn’t standing on principle. I guess they thought the arbitrator could force an NFL team to sign him or something.
Nah, what it proves is that he did it because his feelings were hurt and he was given a platform to abuse it.
He was offered a tryout with the XFL because they thought he might fit in a “lesser” league and his response was to demand 20 mill a year, in a league where starters are making $100,000
The XFL is also run by the NFL … so there is that
The XFL doesn’t yet exist and doesn’t have any “starters,” much less player contracts. It also has no affiliation with the NFL. Not much of a football fan, are you? My guess is you are conflating the AAFL and XFL. Regardless, there’s no way to infer that “his feelings were hurt” because he declined to play in a minor league.
His feelings were hurt because, apparently, he didn’t want to be paid, equivalently, $250 for a $50,000/year job.
Kearsen, in working with people, do you say “Hey, take .05% of your value because if you don’t, you’re just a crybaby with hurt feelings?” Is that how you prefer to be treated?
Here’s the news he’s referencing:

Which seems to me that the XFL is getting desperate. When they announced the new XFL, wasn’t “We’ll make everyone stand for the pledge” part of it?
Right, but he got almost every detail wrong.
Um, his value as a professional football player is exactly 0$. He was being offered a chance at increasing that.
As far as XFL not having ties to the NFL, the very same guys whom are going to run the XFL are all former NFL folks
Again, you are confusing the XFL and AAF.
Well, there goes my cred as a football analyst. Maybe I was thinking about the AAFL. I didn’t think was another Vince McMahon creation
Possibly very little ties to the NFL, my bad.
