He’s not the first and not the worst, but this is going to be a large chunk of the MAGOP message against Harris.
I’m with Spoons. Yes, it should be about Harris. But it also should stress that the lesser of 2 evils is LESS EVIL. And that there is a CLEAR CHOICE between the character and record of the 2 candidates.
Don’t dwell on it. But don’t ignore it either. The American public is not likely to reward someone for trying to remain above the fray.
You definitely need a positive message, “Here are all of the good things I’ll do for the country”. But Harris is also especially well-suited to push hard on the “Trump is a criminal, and I spent my career going after criminals like him” angle. There’s no reason you can’t do both.
It may hurt economically to do so, but personally we’re going to give a bit more now that there’s hope on the horizon. This time to her campaign. It’ll put a squeeze on the household budget for a while, but I guess I view treating the money as a necessary investment in the future. Like a college fund or a new roof. In this case we’re trying to invest in the country.
Trump seems to be spinning his tires thus far on finding an appropriate 3rd grade insult name to attack her with. So far he’s said she’s “dumb as a rock”, which simply isn’t going to resonate with anyone because it’s so patently obvious that its untrue. Now he’s trying “Lyin’ Kamala.” Trouble is, he already used “lyin’” with Ted Cruz. So he’s reduced to having to recycle his own juvenile taunts.
That’s part of the reason I don’t think she needs another lawyer on the ticket-let someone else push on him another way, instead of doubling up on the criming.
She certainly doesn’t need another lawyer, but a high enough proportion of politicians are lawyers that it’d be silly to rule out all of them.
I think he was genuinely taken by surprise that Biden stepped down, despite all the press. I’m in the middle of rereading the Lord of the Rings, and I’m reminded of the point where Gandalf (i think) says that there’s a chance Sauron won’t be looking for the hobbits to enter Mordor and attempt to destroy the ring, because he would never destroy something so powerful, he would try to use it. And he expects Aragorn to do so. Similarly, Trump would never step down just because it would help his county or his party.
There’s one important difference between the two major political parties in this country. Democrats have proven they are capable of making that choice.
I completely understand your position. It is of the utmost importance that Harris and her running mate be crystal clear about what they will do for voters and how they will address the issues that are important to people.
At the same time I feel they need to poke at Trump from time to time. He is already prone to lashing out at his “enemies” and getting it from a lowly female will make him even more hateful and over the top. It won’t take much to get him worked up to a point that will turn off even more voters.
Harris may not be the perfect candidate but she has the distinct advantage of not being Donald Trump. Biden also had that advantage, but she doesn’t suffer from the two biggest negatives that plagued him (e.g. advanced age and perception of diminished capacity)
That is an awesome analogy that rings true.
I want to donate to the campaign of Kamala Harris. Is it better to wait until after she’s officially nominated? I am shaky on just how campaign funds are parceled out and at what time.
It probably would be best to wait 2 weeks of so. Once it is officially official is the best time and she doesn’t need the money in the short term. Money has been pouring in.
Of course Harris needs to communicate a positive vision for the country. But it would be malpractice to run against a racist, insurrectionist, thieving, misogynistic, Roe-destroying, hateful rapist and somehow not mention any of that.
We need a shit ton of scare ads, interspersed with “Hey, I’m not insane and can actually do stuff for you” ads. This stuff should write itself.
Harris will be 60 on Oct 20.
Is it time to bring up Trump’s age (78) and health? He’s changed a lot since The Apprentice.
It would take finesse because her boss’ age is a concern.
On the other hand, the flood of immediate donations makes headlines and reinforces enthusiasm and party unity, both of which are excellent things. I donated immediately.
Yes, it is time. The Republicans were hammering Biden for his age, apparent health and speech. Time to hammer Trump for is age, apparent health and speech.

On the other hand, the flood of immediate donations makes headlines and reinforces enthusiasm and party unity, both of which are excellent things. I donated immediately.
Fair point, but from what I saw that spike already made the news and an even bigger one immediately after the Convention makes it official would be great. But, I’m not sure which will be the most effective. I lean towards post official.
Or… why not both?
I’ll at least will be giving once to the national campaign. If I give twice, the second will be to a specific state committee in play. 2020 my donation went to Stacey Abrams’ group to help in Georgia and that was late in the race. I think early October.

At the same time I feel they need to poke at Trump from time to time.
The only way she should poke at him is to say things suggesting “I heard about that other guy, but he is so insignificant, and I have better things to pay attention to.” As though he is not the big, bad enemy, he is teh meh.
