Well, on review, that was unduly harsh, but it was no more counterproductive than the comment that prompted it. Apologies for my rudeness…
For one thing, the game thread sticky is in MPSIMS. My sticky is in the Pit, and contains Pit rules. For another thing, many newspapers around the country carry The Straight Dope column, which is owned by the Chicago Reader.
I know that; that’s how I discovered The Straight Dope. Don’t see how that’s relevant. All this whining about the poor widdle independent weekly unable to handle the bandwidth requirements of a very popular message board (even with the syndication income) just doesn’t move me. It only underscores the fact that the Reader is out of it’s league. Sorry if that seems callous; I support my own area independent weeklies and wish the Reader the best, but really, this board has grown beyond their scope and it doesn’t appear that anyone there is going to do anything about it.
So what should the Reader do about it? And why?
I’m not a technical person, so I don’t really have an answer for that, but basically some hard decisions have to be made. Cut members, charge members, change servers, change software, farm it out or give up this message board. But going on and on being a penny ante outfit trying to run something beyond their capabilities just doesn’t cut it anymore.
Sorry if I don’t have a solution, but they don’t either and they’re the ones running the show, so it’s on them. Frankly, if they decided, “screw it, it’s just too much to handle”, I would be disappointed, but it’s understandable.
Oops, I forgot to mention that making the mods police threads more becuase of this is also quite unfair; they’re already doing an unpaid, nearly thankless job as it is…

Of course they don’t. It’s just hard to stand by and watch a good thing get screwed up by an organization unwilling or unable to prevent it.
