Kappa Alpha Delta?

Going through my grandmother’s jewelry box today, found a small (pinky or women’s, maybe size 5 - have to find my sizer…) 14k (so it says inside) gold ring with K A Δ in a vertical oval on the front. No idea of the age, or even who it belonged to - Grandma was born in 1926, but it could have been a family member’s before or after.

Google leads me Alpha Kappa Delta, but no Kappa Alpha Delta. Anyone know if there ever was a Kappa Alpha Delta order?

Picture!

Could be a local sorority, not affiliated with a national house.

I checked a list of social, professional, honor, and recognition Greek letter organizations in a 1948 Information Please almanac, and it’s not listed there.

Greekpages.com doesn’t have it.

The standard reference is Baird’s Manual, which a library may or may not have, and I definitely don’t.
Possibilities leaving fewer traces on the (U.S.) public record:

a) a high school fraternity or sorority

b) a local (one campus only) fraternity or sorority

c) a foreign (college) organization

d) a more general fraternal organization, not college- or high school-based
Baird’s will have some of the above listed.
A ladies’ pinky ring could be a gift from a member of a men’s organization.

A high school or college yearbook will list graduates’ Greek letter organization memberships, except where the institution forbids them (many states have long banned high school GLOs.) You could check whatever such your grandmother attended.
My guess is “b”, since you didn’t mention a chapter ID on the inside of the ring, which I think would be usual for a national organization.

Wow, I had no idea there were local, or high school, GLO’s!

There are no markings inside except for the 14K mark.

I’m kind of guessing on the pinkie/ladies’ ring thing. It fits my pinkie, and my hands are pretty small. Oh…hang it…gets the sizer… it’s right between a 4 and a 4 1/2, so yes, pretty small and not quite standardized size.

Hmmm…guess I’ll do some more research before I decide whether to keep this or sell it for weight…

Thanks! At least now I know where to start.
