Kasparov...Finis!

Vladimir Kramnik has defeated Garry Kasparov for the World Championship. Kasparov, who is considered by many the greatest chess palyer of all time (although not anywhere near a consensus opinion) played poorly, while Kramnik played solidly, not losing a single game and winning two. Kasparov and Kramnik drew today’s 15th game giving Krmanik a two-point lead with one game to play.

Some of the highlights (lowlights) two draws of less then 15 moves each and a shocking Kasaprov 25 move loss in game 10.

BTW, this is not the Official World Championship as dictated by the world chess organizing body FIDE. Kasparov had a break with them and was still condiered the de facto World Champion by most. The current FIDE champion is Alexander Khalifman.

Yes but he did beat “The World” on the Zone which I guess kinda includes Kramnik. Though Hal 9000 did manage to kick his ass.

I think the main problem is that Gary fell into one of the slightly less well known classic blunders: Never go in against The Sicilian when death is on the line!

Tretiak, you seem to be in the know regarding chess. To what reasons do you attribute Kasparov’s decline? Overconfidence? Lack of preparation? Prime years gone by? Or is Kramnik really that good? Do you know what happened to Judith Polgar? She suddenly vanished after the Fisher-Spassky–sp?-- match.
