Kate and Ally Television Show

Was conversing with a buddy of mine about how old school “SNL” was the best. Which inevitably led to a discussion of Jane Curtin. But my question isn’t about that. It’s about an episode of the old 80’s televison show she was on with Susan Saint James, “Kate and Allie”. It’s the episode in which Susan, “Kate”, was stuck in her office with the power out. She was there with some other guy and they started talking while waiting for the power to come back on. Well they hit it off and, I can’t remember exactly, but at one point one of them asked the other out. Well, the power came back and it revelled the mystery man as an African American Man. I remeber this episode because it really pointed out to me the retardedness of society at the time that frowned apon interracial dating.
The debate we had was if they actually went out. For some reason I remember her deciding not to and having a long drawn out conversation with Allie about wether she was a bigot or not because of it. My buddy said that conversation came after they went out. Any dopers remember what happened? I’ll be surprised if anyone remembers this obscure episode.

I remember the build-up to that episode (which was called “Dark Victory”) but I don’t remember how it ended either…

IIRC the guy said something about how he might not have asked her out if he’d known she was white and they decided to be just friends, which means he was never seen or heard from again.

I remember an older show which had a similar theme. There was an episode of The Courtship of Eddie’s Father where Eddie set Bill Bixby up with the single mother of one of his classmates. Awkwardness ensues when it turns out that the woman was black. They eventually laughed about it and had a nice evening but a relationship was out of the question.

Well, of course. You know he was gettin’ it on with Mrs. Livingstone. It was a dom/sub thing, you see, hence the whole “Mistah Eddie Faddah” thing…
