Kate Middleton is pregnant again. She has to be nuts

Kate did not say she was only going to have two children. However, after his marriage, but before he and Kate had any children, Prince William did say that he would like to have two. That has somehow been turned into a belief that they only wanted two.

When writing about Kate, I generally refer to her as the Duchess of Cambridge. I’ve never found it to be a problem.

Folk didn’t keep saying “Diana Spencer” because “The Princess of Wales” was awkward.

“Princess Diana” or “Princess Di” were never correct, but arguably more accurate than continuing to use her maiden name.

I’ve seen her referred to as “Kathy Cambridge”.

That’s better than “Princess William” (which would be formally correct).

And while “Princess Diana” was never strictly correct, it even seeped into official communications from the palaces.

While that is the usual pattern it’s not a hard and fast rule. Each pregnancy is different.

Hyperemesis gravidarum is not normal morning sickness and can be life-threatening to both mother and child.

One of my sisters had it in both her pregnancies. She spent weeks in the hospital requiring IV fluids, and for the first pregnancy she weighed less the day she delivered her kid than before she got pregnant. Yeah, instead of gaining weight during her pregnancy she lost it. She was very, very sick. This sort of thing used to kill women before there was modern medicine.

I find it a bit baffling Kate is willing to go through that again, but hey, at this point she knows what she is getting into and it’s her choice. She’s already produced an heir and a spare so I assume this is voluntary on her part.

FairyChatMom:

Yeah, my wife and I had 3 under 3…for one day. It’s really not all that tough, even without hired help. (It’s the older ones that are tougher. Toddlers and an infant are relatively…wait for it…child’s play.)

It’s believed that this is what killed Charlotte Bronte. :frowning:

My BFF’s sister had the worst case of it that her doctor had ever seen; she was on TPNs (total parenteral nutrition) and it was the first time in more than 20 years of practice that the doctor had recommended termination. The only reason she didn’t do it was because all the misery she had endured would have been for naught, and it was a horrific thing for her to even think about because she’s a lifelong devout Catholic who very much wanted this baby.

When she had her daughter a couple years earlier, her normal morning sickness went away around the time that she started to show. To everyone’s surprise, and delight (hers most of all), this did too. The remainder of the pregnancy was uncomplicated, and she gave birth at term to a healthy boy who is now in college. However, that was not an experience she wished to repeat, even though she did want a third child (BUT NOT THAT MUCH).

My SIL had a borderline case with her first child, and she too weighed less on delivery day than she did before she got pregnant, but in her case it was because she never regained all the weight she lost. We now believe that it was about 10% pregnancy and 90% gallbladder disease, which reared its ugly head shortly after the baby was born. She had a MUCH easier time with her second.

If Game of Thrones has taught us anything, it’s that the realm needs an heir. And a spare.

That sentence hints at either an amusing coincidence, or a horrific tragedy. I’m assuming it’s the former?

And you should probably kill off all the bastards to be sure.

No, the bastards are great to have in the wings, because when all the legitimate heirs are dead you can pick the best of the bastards and legitimize them. You just kill the crazy ones.

I’m hoping it’s that the oldest turned 4 the next day

I can see why a woman might choose to endure hyperemesis gravidarum multiple times, even though it is a truly awful thing to experience, for the sake of having the family she wants. I didn’t have HG myself, but my morning sickness never fully went away and I had daily nausea throughout the pregnancy. In spite of that, though, I definitely want another child.
Yes, I am scared that the morning sickness could be just as bad or worse next time, but for me, having a kid truly is worth taking the chance. Eventually, the pregnancy is over, and afterwards you get to enjoy having a lifelong relationship (hopefully) with an awesome person. My son is the best thing in my life and my favorite person in the world. I would do things for him that I would never do for anyone else. I expect the same would be true for future kids too. I hope I get the chance to have more.

If you know anyone who is suffering from HG, make sure they know about this organization that offers support: http://helpher.org

Similarly, Sarah, Duchess of York (Prince Andrew’s former wife) has often been referred to by her maiden name, Sarah Ferguson.

She’s doing her Royal Duty, I guess. Her main function is to produce as many heirs as possible, even in today’s modern monarchy.

And luckily for her, she can do it in what seems to be a happy marriage, so Kate can pop out as many little crumb crunchers as she can tolerate before she has to stop. Plus, Royal Babies are excellent PR for “The Firm”.

I think Diana would have had more children if her marriage to Charles had been even somewhat happy, as it is well known she liked children and adored her own. She might have been willing to keep going until Charles got the little girl he said he wanted & was vocal about being disappointed he didn’t get when Harry was born.
