Get the hell out.

So long nawlins.

Sorry Shirley ! I’ll post puppy updates as I get them.

Lots of Baton Rouge people on here. Nice to meet you all. Hey, next time maybe we can plan a “Hurridope.”

Think I’ll be turning off my computer and leaving soon. Godspeed!

Good luck to you, and all the other Gulf Coast Dopers.

I’m going to stay witht he computer on as long as I can… there’s no other way to communicate that I have, the service is very busy.

If you are on the Gulf Coast GET THE HELL OUT NOW!!

Or we, may Heaven forbid, wind up short one Doper. :smack:

Nope Bosta, I’m not on the coast. I’m Baton Rouge, experiencing a band.

Yeah, I just heard them announce on whatever station Mom is watching that pets aren’t allowed at the shelters. :frowning: Made me think of the aftermath of Floyd in the rural parts of my state, with all the hunting dogs and farm animals standing on roofs.

i’m worried about the pups as well. i can’t imagine how your sister is dealing with this. she must be frantic.

hope you hear good news from her friend.

Damn, this one looks like a bitch. They were reporting on the news that the French Quarter may be gone. As in, not there anymore.

Get the hell out, and please post when you can. This one is no joke. People are going to die, and some of those bodies may never be found.

(ivylass, who went through Charley, Frances, and Jeanne last year, and they’re not anywhere near as bad as this one.)

And not to add fuel to the fire, but apparently this area produces 25% of our domestic oil. If you guys (and I mean all Dopers, not just our Big Easy ones) haven’t filled up with gas, I suggest you do so tonight.

The Gulf Coast produces 25% of our domestic oil, not New Orleans specifically. Still, a guy on the news this evening predicted that the price of gas might jump 20 or 30 cents next week.

cnn just showed dolphins evacuated from gulf point. 3 are at a holiday inn pool and 3 are at another hotel pool. the reporter said that they may be able to swim with the dolphins because the people with them said that they would be calmer with humans in the water with them.

the sea lions and seals were evacuated to warehouses because they could be out of water longer than the dolphins.

the pools at the hotels have been changed over to saltwater for the dolphins.

the aquarium at gulf point expects huge damage to the facility.

Already happened. Crude oil topped $70, and commodity gasoline jumped 19.84 cents/gallon in afterhours (?) trading. There’s something like 1.5 million barrels / day refining capacity beneath the projected path of the eye of this storm – and I seriously doubt it was built to handle 200 mph winds.

KG, if you need someone to pass messages to your family, please let me know. I’ll be more happy to help.

The same goes for anyone else, too. My e-mail is robincartwright at yahoo dot com.

Live from CNN. Experts say that this may be a disaster of biblical proportions. The city of New Orleans will be under siege and experts tell those remaining in the city that they must…Hey look! Dolphins.

Lord forbid if there are any white women missing after the storm…

cnn will be busy showing reporters swimming with the dolphins. they will leave the missing women to mr abrams.

unless you think the dolphins will nab any women they swim across… that would be a headline and a half.

Well, the humor has already stated. “nawlins.mpg” just turned up in my inbox, it’s a clip from a 1940s (?) nuclear test, showing buildings starting to fall over, but disintigrating before hitting the ground. Email was titled “Vienna West”. Nice.

A serious question for Nawlins locals: Just how well built is the Superdome? Is it a matter of “any port in a storm” or was it designed to stand up to anything short of the hand of Ghod? If the stadium should collapse I fear for the recovery crew’s sanity…
