So, I’m watching the Yankees play the Royals this afternoon and they just had the ceremonies for the renovated Kauffman Stadium. They did a really nice job on the place. I was there in '91 and I thought it was a cool stadium then, but it really looks great now. The scoreboard with the crown looks awesome and I like the way the incorporated the waterfall(s) in the new design. ETA: Apparently they call it “The New K.”
Here are a couple of recent links from the Kansas City Star with details about the renovation. The second article has links with photos and video from the “open house” they had last week. Yeah, it looks like they did a good job, and the team is supposed to be much improved too – I may have to catch a few Royals games this year!
I’m watching the game online. It does look nice. I think I’d rather spend an afternoon there than at Chase Field with the roof closed.
I meant to mention that I think it’s great that they renovated rather than building new. Not that $250 million is cheap, but it’s nice to see what can be done without going crazy (and yes, I know this is strange, coming from a Yankee fan…)
