Weeeeird how Chuck Grassley was committed to getting Kavanaugh through committee even as he vacillated in answering basic questions about his contacts with regard to the Mueller investigation, and weeeeird how Mitch McConnell was pushing forward with a confirmation vote even though the FBI investigation was so limited in scope and not available to public scrutiny to evaluate whether there was any corroboration to the sexual assault allegations. Just…weeeeird.
Just because she denies it doesn’t mean they are lies. The Guardian and Huffington Post reported based on multiple sources. Her denials don’t address specific reported facts, and actually I don’t see factual contradictions between the denial and the reported story. Recall that the story does say, “There is no allegation that the female students who worked for Kavanaugh were chosen because of their physical appearance or that they were not qualified.”
What’s weird about it? The accusations were brought to shed light on the character of the candidate, not to bring criminal charges (contrast to Bill Cosby accusations). It was not a criminal investigation, and the alleged crimes can no longer be prosecuted due to statute of limitations. So what exactly do you think the accusers should do now if their accusations are true? They have no further recourse.
Nice whatabouttism there, bro. The Dems are the ones who made this all about trying to convince the public that BK is a rapist, so that’s all I’m here to talk about, not your conspiracy theories about Russia. If Ford actually wanted this to be investigated further, wouldn’t it make sense to keep talking about it and pursuing it now even after he was confirmed?
Tons of people came out to support her, they raised about a million dollars for her on Gofundme, but now that the confirmation is over, she’s just dropping it? That makes no sense unless the only purpose of the allegations was to derail the confirmation.
Nice shifting of goalposts there and good duck & weave, brah.
None of the three women who made allegations regarding Kavanaugh’s alleged misbehavior have recanted or revised their stories. Your claim ignores the fact that a Republican-dominated Senate jammed through the confirmation with a White House controlled FBI “background investigation” so superficial and limited in scope that it did not even consist of interviewing all of the corroborating and character witnesses named by Ford, Ramirez, and Swetnick and for which the report was not even made available to the public or permitted to be openly discussed by the senators who did review it. Ford as “just kind of decided to drop the whole thing” in the sense that Kavanaugh has been confirmed to a lifetime appointment with the aid of a Judiciary Committee that was so scared of her that the Republican senators had to bring in a sex crimes prosecutor/human shield to ask questions, and then got upset when she started asking questions like an actual sex crimes prosecutor and shut her down. As a criminal matter the statute of limitations for non-felony attempted assault has long expired and Ford has no legal avenue, nor sufficient evidence for a criminal prosecution to the standard of beyond a reasonable doubt.
And notwithstanding whether you personally find the allegations credible or not, Kavanaugh’s behavior in the hearing and his other distortions, evasions, and outright untruths provided under oath should have disqualified him for a seat on the Supreme Court. That Grassley, McConnell, and the rest of the GOP decided to ignore these issues in their rush to confirm a justice that would be accommodating to Trump in evading investigation and legal action is just an indication of how openly corrupt and spurious this entire process was. There is no ambiguity in the fact that Kavanaugh spent the better part of eight minutes trying to avoid answering a very straightforward question about whether he had a discussion about the Mueller investigation with lawyers at Kasowitz Benson Torres, the law firm that has represented Donald Trump in his business and personal property activities for over fifteen years and is an entirely legitimate concern regarding conflicts of interest that Kavanaugh may have in serving on the Supreme Court.
