A friend has a KX80 Big Wheel. It’s a '94 model. There is a leak in the fuel tank and we are trying to find out if the tank is ABS plastic or Polypropolene. He has access to a specialty silicone sealant, but it won’t work on polypropolene.
Hmm, a plastic tank, I did not know they made such a thing. My 1990 Yamaha has a metal tank and apparently it has a reputation for rusting out; I belong to an online usergroup of fellow Yamaha Radian owners, and every two weeks there’s a discussion about Creem vs. epoxy tank sealants.
Based on my experience, I’d try the following:
A Kawasaki dealer or website. Some of those guys/sites can be pretty informative.
An online user group of Big Wheel owners. You can’t be the first person who has had to deal with this problem
The local cycle shop suggested taking a shaving from the tank to a good body shop. He said that they could burn it and tell the difference by the way it burns! We may do that.
I’d guess it’s polypropolene, but need to know before trying this silicone product.
