keeping a turtle as a pet (yes, I know about hand sanitizer)

once my large tank has cycled and is stable, the fish in my 2.5g are moving into it, leaving me with an over-filtered* FW tank w/ gravel and rocks and snails in it…

I have a clip-on desk lamp, so I figure I’d just change the bulb in it

I’d need a heater, right? or not? the tank as it stands now maintains 80-84 degrees without any heating help, but that’ll change come winter…

I know I’d have to build a basking area for him, the water level will be about 4-5" deep, can I make the basking area out of sloped gravel and rocks? should the light focus on the basking area?

this turtle will be of the 1.5" educational variety, with me buying him larger tanks as he’ll need it over the years

the tankmates to the turtle will be snails that have overrun the place

*by over-filtered I mean the tank has a filter on it that cycles the water ever 2 minutes, and it has a current like a freakin river, it moves chunks of gravel around and I need to move them away from the filter every so often

Avoid exposing them to radiation.
They mutate.
You will thank me, when they do not smite you with their mighty nun-chucks.
