The core of it is that the murderer having stabbed his victim lied to his family and the police, telling them that he was the victim of a racist assault and initialy denying that there had been any stabbing. (He also persuaded his mother to hide the murder weapon; her trial is due soon). When the police arrived, the killer and his brother were at the scene and told them this lie (the brother may well have been a dupe, not a liar). Initially - but only initially - the police believed the two witnesses over the denials of the victim, and - in his final minutes of life - arrested and handcuffed him. They also treated his pleas for help and statement he’d been stabbed with casual dismissal. When it shortly after became apparent that he had been stabbed and was dying, they attempted first aid but it was too late, and likely always had been.
If you want you can find the body-cam footage online, but I wouldn’t advise it. However, lots of people have seen it and, whipped up by our racist far-right politicians, have decided that the police were displaying anti-white racism, that whites are second-class citizens in their own country, that this is race war in our own backyard and further offensive nonsense. Hence an anti-police riot in Southampton last night.
There are always racist thugs, and racist riot-mongers. What makes them successful is a deliberate government policy of continually telling them that they are in essence right about the perils of immigration and the dangers posed by incomers. Scroll upthread and you can see the Home Secretary explicitly saying that she is imposing draconian anti-immigrant regulations because she wants to appease racists.
This hasn’t worked.
The victim’s father asked for his son’s death not to be used to stoke hatred, division and violence, so naturally Nigel Farage immediately made a speech stoking hatred, division and violence.
Very on-brand for ol’ Nigel.
Much to my surprise, ol’ Nigel actually turned up to Parliament for the first time in about three months yesterday. And also to my surprise, Starmer actually tore him a new one for going against the explicit wishes of the family in using the death to stoke violence.
As I said in the other thread on this. This some baffling fuckery even by the standards of Farage and the gammon f_ckwits. Who the f_ck sees that video, of a white cop being a totally bastard and letting a poor kid (who happens to be white) die, and says “the problem here is anti-white racism, we need our cops to be more racist to brown people” rather than “we need our cops not to be bastards who let kids die, whatever color the kids are”.
It’s not super surprising and completely on brand for Farage. But still utterly baffling to me.

The meta context and Farage’s real message is:
- If our police had been right bastards to all the brown people all along so our country didn’t have any brown people, just like it’s supposed to be, then this would never have happened. It’s all because we’re not pure white that these sorts of crimes happen. Tolerance of brown amounts to anti-white.
IOW standard fascist fare.

Of course, Farage is a fascist who thinks the problem with the police is they aren’t violent and oppressive enough against minorities and people he disagrees with. He’d comment on a video of a cute kitten falling off a chair with “this shows how the police are racist against white people”.
But it’s still baffling to me that your average gammon throwing rocks in Southampton would think this. Again baffling not surprising.

The only sensible motivation for mincing oaths at SDMB is to avoid triggering problems for other posters reading from work where their employers’ firewall or nanny spyware objects to words like porn or fuck or … and so may censor your post on the way to them. The same as the rest of the board: don’t put it in titles that will be seen on the front page, no restriction inside threads in any forum.
In many US police departments its routine to handcuff even badly injured perpetrators, as they can, and have, come to life again and started being violent once more.
There’s less to this than meets the eye. Judgement call in a developing situation which turns out to be the wrong one.
