Different argument entirely. Yes, clearly this nation wanted to move toward socialism, and Rush is a voice of the opposition that doesn’t want us to. That’s one of those ‘reasonable disagreement’ parts. I wanted Bush to fail at many of his policies and so did you.
The government had already absorbed lots of the debts of private institutions when Obama entered office, but I didn’t see anyone calling Bush a socialist.
As far as your contention that unpaid community service is “socialistic”…
He ran on a platform of government ownership of business? I must have missed that.
And we aren’t moving him, Congress is…a Congress that recently had an approval rating of 14%.
In my opinion, there is far too much glee on the part of certain lefties around here about the way the country is alleged to be moving. Bush was not only elected to office to begin with but resoundingly reelected to a second term. Most of the population disapproves of Congress and is very unhappy with the representation it has been getting, and Obama, despite the Iraq war, the economy, and non-stop Bush bashing by the left, still won by only 8 percentage points.
It’s hardly a given that the populace wants the U.S. to turn to socialism. It is a given that the Democratically-controlled Congress wants it to turn to socialism so it can buy the votes of its individual constituencies with other peoples’ money, and so that’s exactly what it does.
But fortunately we have relatively frequent elections in this country and most of what’s going on now will very likely wind up in the trash heap of history just like Johnson’s socialistic programs of the sixties.
And the answer to stopping what is going on now is not for the right to become liberal-light. Conservatives need to hold to their principles (or regain them in those instances where they’ve been abandoned) so as to provide a clear alternative once people begin to see how their freedoms and way of life are being eroded by socialism and government control of what they get and how they get it. So to that degree I’m in agreement with what Limbaugh is saying. He doesn’t want ‘the country’ to fail; he wants socialism to fail. And that’s a good thing.
Bullshit.
Ahahahahahahahahaha… Seriously, though, what the hell?
Absitively, posolutely! I thow the full weight of my support for Starving as Maximum Leader and Theoretician for the Republicanistic Party and the Conservative Movement! Go, Starv, go!
I beg your pardon?
Duck and cover?
Okay, I’ll allow the part where they make bourbon. And Key West.
– highlights mine.
Did you fail basic math or do you simply chose to ignore facts that disrupt your warped imagination? Because Bush actually lost the popular vote in 2000 and in his “resounding” reelection, Bush received 2.5% more than Kerry. Bush’s absolute victory margin (approximately 3 million votes) was the smallest of any sitting president since Harry S. Truman in 1948. And yet you have the stones to qualify Obama’s 8% MOV as “only.”
Seriously, some might even say that you’re batshit insane.
I, however, try to remain above such undignified discourse. Thus I simply think of you that way.
PS-I won’t be responding anytime soon as I’ll be busy pondering the immortality of The Alaskan King Crab. And after that I’ll be trimming my toenails. I’ll update you on my minute to minute activities as events unfold…
I did.
So are you arguing that the community service ‘produces’ nothing of value?
Hmmmmm - really? Let’s see - George W. Bush - 50.7% of the popular vote. Compare this to John Kerry with only 48.3% of the popular vote. Well - I guess you can count that as resounding.
Hmmmm - in 2008, Obama won with 52.9% of the popular vote, while McCain grabbed 47.7%.
So - you describe W’s re-election as resounding with a margin of 2.4 percentage points. Yet Obama ONLY won with a margin of 5.2 percentage points.
(And I see that RedFury beat me to it.)
The comment was made in view of the disbelief evinced by such dolts as yourself that he would be reelected at all. The view around here was that he’d screwed the pooch so thoroughly that the only question was how badly he would lose. The election wasn’t a squeaker like it was in 2000. That’s what I meant.
And I notice that as usual, you and your fellow dolts single out the most insignificant part of my post to take issue with. Why does that always seem to be the case…hmm?
And now I’m afraid I’ll be out for the rest of the day. I have work to do, and after that I’ll need to get a shower and brush my teeth and fluff my hair. Then it’s off to dinner, and…well, who knows when I’ll get back.
So ta-ta! Y’all have a good day now, y’hear?
Of course not. Why would I bother? Is your definition of socialism “that which produces value”?
Obama is not a socialist. Obama is not “moving us toward socialism”. There is a Social Democrat ethos to some of his proposed programs, but calling him a socialist because of the bailouts is like calling him a unilateralist because he’s going to cut the F-22 program: factually incorrect.
If you’d get that Twitter thingy, you could keep us updated on a minute-by-minute basis! Of course, the big news of the day is **Red **has giant crabs.
Is that the new conservative position? Whenever a liberal prediction about something anywhere ends up being wrong, you get to invent your own facts?
Because before now, I thought there were no restrictions whatsoever on the right’s prerogative to make things up.
I can always rely on SA to be completely full of shit, and be a coward whenever he’s called on it.
Was too.
Ah, one ignorant asshole from Alabama makes a fool of himself on SDMB, and suddenly, we have Dopers talking shit about the entire region.
It’s taking a LOT longer than we thought, you morons.
What! He’s having a crab boil? And he didn’t invite US ??!!
I reckon so! Maybe Sampiro will get blown my way. Hmm.
Waittaminute. Key West is not the South!
Ogre: I don’t think that part is serious. You’re not mad at me for my “Roll Tide” comment are ya?
Hmmm…I tend to see red when I read that kind of shit on SDMB (and I see it often), so I may not be the most unbiased critic. If it was a joke, I apologize to the morons in question (:)).
And why should I be offended? I’m a Tide fan.
