Keith Olbermann suspended from MSNBC

for making campaign contributions to political candidates. I was unaware the networks had policies that forbid its on-air personalities from making private donations to political campaigns. I wonder if that extends to other forms of donations as well.

Pretty dumb of him to not run this by management first. It’s standard in the news world to have policies like this for reporters. I used to work for a major company that covered Capitol Hill, and even though I was not on the editorial staff, I still wasn’t allowed to make political donations.

It was great when the fundraisers would call.

Duplicate thread?

Damn, I search for Olbermann’s name and that thread didn’t show up.

I guess so, but he’s really not a newsman, now is he? What he does is political commentary, mainly bashing Fox and Republicans. I think NBC is being stupid, trying to show journalistic integrity where isn’t any.

All that really matters is what the company policy is. Where I worked, it didn’t matter what your job was - whether you were a reporter, an IT tech, a salesman, or a receptionist - you were not to make political contributions.

Since there’s a thread in GD, I’m going to close this one. If someone feels a need for an MPSIMS version, let me know and I’ll reopen.
