Kelly Clarkson to debut at #1

Kelly Clarkson, the winner in the original American Idol series, will have the #1 album on Billboards Top 200 Albums chart for the week ending April 20. Her album, Thankful is estimated to have sold around 300,000 copies. Precise figures aren’t available just yet.

So, all you American Idol fans, thanks for rushing out and buying it, and if you haven’t yet, well, what are you waiting for?*

  • And to answer your question, no I haven’t bought it nor do I plan to. I’m very proud to be able to say that I haven’t watched a single second of American Idol. EVER. Nor will I.

I understand that Christina Skankulera had a hand in writing or producing her current single, which is getting radio play at the moment. It kind of sounds like her, alright.

(I have never watched American Idol either.)

If I heard this song without being told who the singer was, I would have bet money it was Christina Skankulera (I’m gonna start calling her that, I hope you don’t mind jinwicked).

I don’t think I’m saying anything profound here but I’ll say it nonetheless. Kelly Clarkson needs to find her own sound if she is going to last for any significant period of time. She can only live on American Idol winner for so long.

I might agree with that second sentence, but I don’t think the first sentence has been true for many lasting pop acts since 1950.

You’re probably right, now that I think about it. It’s just awefully similar to a great deal that has been released in the last 2 or 3 years.

She has to distinguish herself a little though.

Her new song was co-written by Christina Aguillara.

Right, we’ve established that… which may explain why the song super sucks.

I know and that’s exactly who it sounds like.
