I’m not a Jeopardy! watcher, but have heard about this Jennings fellow a couple of times. News piece in my local paper today says that Jennings has racked up his 66th consecutive win, earning $2.1M.
It certainly sounds like this guy is unbeatable. (Of course, no one is completely unbeatable, in theory, but whatever). What will Jeopardy! do to get this guy off the show? Buy him out with a $10M package or something? I mean, it can’t be good for their ratings to have the same guy winning night-after-night.
Has there been any talk about this among the show’s fans? Any ideas on what they’ll do?
Why would it be bad for ratings? He’s a friggin’ freak show! To get him to lose, they need to dumb down the questions. He’s shown he knows just about everything, and his buzzer skills are killer. Dumb the questions down, and let the other contestants not second guess themselves.
Personally, I think he’s ruining the diversity of the show, which is one of my fave aspects of it. But, according to an earlier thread on the subject, you and I are in a very small minority. At least, on the Dope we are.

Besides, he IS playing by their rules. Just because I’m tired of him doesn’t mean much to TV execs.
That was my thinking. Like I say, I’m not an active Jeapardy! watcher, but have seen the show, and I think that I’d get rather bored with the same guy winning over and over and over again. I mean, what if December comes around and he’s still winning? April '05? October '07? At some point, people are going to be bored with him. And what then?
I boo him when they introduce him each night.
I too am tired of seeing him, but he’s done a lot for the ratings of the show.
He does lose, though. It’s all over the net with his final winnings and even the appearance number.
And I know it’s true, because I read it on the Internet!
I watch from time to time. I think Ken sometimes adds drama because every once in a while it looks like this could be the day. Also, he’s a pretty charming guy.
I have nothing against Ken, but I’m getting tired of seeing him quite so much. I’m watching now just so that I can see when he finally goes down. I think he’s going to retire without losing – one of the rule changes that went with the no time limit is that they can retire without penalty.
I truly believe I shall cry if he loses. Alex made an interesting suggestion…maybe Ken would just say at a certain point, “It’s been fun, but I want to get back to my life now,” and retire on top.
I sometimes lean toward Ken being unbeatable for as long as he has been, because of his skill at ringing in. I think it helps, but I really do think he is just that smart. I watched last night, and could see one of the contestants ringing in a hair behind on every question in a category, when he finally beat Ken ringing in, Ken seemed to try that much harder. The contestant then switched to searching for the two daily doubles in the second round. Ken knew it and shut him out. I like rooting for the underdog, but don’t begrudge Ken his winnings. I think he makes the show more interesting.
There was a rumor that his last appearance was going to be on October 25th, so I’m taking all such future rumors with a boulder of salt.
Jeopardy is my favorite game show. I am on the eligible contestant roster for this season, and Ken and his hinky longevity has made it all the less likely that I’ll get on the show. I haven’t been watching because it’s boring. It’s the Ken Show. Everyday it’s the same old, same old.
The College Tournament runs from the 10th - 23rd of November. I’ll be checking out what happens next week immediately prior.
I haven’t watched the show in years but I watched it regularly in the late 80s/early 90s. Some of the great five time winners and TOC victors would have gone on equally great runs.
My cousin made it onto Jeopardy and ended up facing the best guy of that season who ended up winning the TOC. That guy was phenomenal. Cuz could only take solace in that he did the best against that guy of anyone in his five day run and the he got a nice stereo as a lovely parting gift.
