Ken Ken/Calc-Doku Puzzles

I downloaded an app for my phone called “Ken Ken Academy.” I didn’t know what it was except it was puzzles. Ken Ken puzzles are like Sudoku puzzles with math which is why some are calling them CalcuDoku. The difference is that each cell there is a number and arithmetic sign and the numbers in each cell have to equal that number using that arithmetic function. Apparently, they were created by a Japanese math teacher as tool for his students to use. I find them way more addicting than Sudoku. The app on my phone was four difficulty levels and some of the puzzles in the higher levels don’t have the arithmetic sign, which you have to figure out on your own. Also, the biggest puzzles are 6x6. Anyone else as addicted to these puzzles as I am?

They go up to 8x8 on the NYT:

At one point, they tried out a 7x7 and a 9x9. They were fun.
