Generally, suicide resulting from “grave mental disturbance” is generally not considered a mortal sin – and if this guy wasn’t the poster child for grave mental disturbance I don’t know who is.

That message reads like severe mental illness. He was a monstrous asshole with a public platform for spreading his assholery, so I can’t really mourn his loss, but I can’t celebrate it either.

Even though he was a Christian minister, apparently he had never heard of repentance, forgiveness, and leading a good life from then on. If he had done those things, he could have become a tremendous force for good.

I just read that article detailing the sexual assault of a 17 year old girl. It’s probably one of the most credible reports I’ve seen in the media. Her testimony of the event is consistent with victim psychology, she has Facebook records of confronting him about it the day after it happened, she told her parents, she told police, she cooperated fully with police investigations, and she has months of clinical documentation about the trauma she suffered in the aftermath. Then there are all the people who witnessed him shitfaced that night. That man was guilty.
