Kenya's Elephants Send Text Messages to Rangers

Or at least, a device attached to them does. A cool way to warn rangers that they are straying into farms. Story here.

This would be a good thing for Thailand to have. Elephants love pineapples, and wild elephants are always raiding plantations in our pineapple-growing upper peninsula. It is illegal to kill wild elephants, but the farmers still do it. Some of them put up highly charged electric fences that will electrocute an elephant trying to wander in for a snack. Others just shoot them. A device like this could help.

On the other hand, I have to wonder how long it will take for these Kenyan elephants to start sending out scam e-mails.

okay, elephants can text, can they program tivo?

They wouldn’t need to. They know when every program is on already.
