Is it unusual for a for someone running for President to not give an interview in over a month? How about not answering questions from reporters?

If he was ahead in the polls, yeah, I could see not saying anything so there is no chance to screw it up. I suppose he’s going to start being more open in October so that in the last month of the campaign America will “Get to Know™” John Kerry and he can ramp up to the election.
He’s on Letterman tonight, and Regis & Kelly tomorrow morning.
So did Bush, Gore, Dole, Clinton, Bush, Reagon, Mondale, etc. ever take a month off from interviews or questions?
