Who’s likely to be in John Kerry’s cabinet? I’m thinking Wes Clark as Sec. of Defense or National Security advisor. Maybe Gephardt as Sec. of Labor? I think Attorney General will be interesting. The Right hated Janet Reno and the Left hates John Ashcroft.
How about Edwards as state, Clark for homeland or admin of Iraq?
Nah, I’m betting that Clark made that quicky endorsement on the promise of SecState.
Ahem.
You’re pretty confident, aren’t you? The election is 8 months away and you’re writing the OP like it already happened and Kerry won.
I can see Kerry playing this game in bed in his mind after his concession speech.
Lots of former Clinton Administration officials, but mostly from the second level. Similar policies will result. Fine by me.
Relax, Doors, it’s a hypothetical question.
He should give Bill Clinton a high-ranking post, just to cheese off the right.
A couple thoughts:
- He won’t pick any sitting Senators, for the same reason that GW didn’t - the balance in the Senate is too close to risk any seats if the party doesn’t have to. There are, however, a few retirees - John Edwards, Zell Miller, Bob Graham, couple of others. At least one of these, as well as any who lose their races, might make appearances in the Cabinet.
- The House, however, isn’t close. I could see Mr. Kucinich as HHS Secretary.
- I like the idea of Gen. Clark at Homeland Security.
- Norm Mineta will stay at Transportation, unless he wants out of government.
I was having this discussion tonight with some co-workers. We thought of Michael Dukakis as ambassador to Mexico. Dukakis is fluent in Spanish and has worked with Kerry. I can even see Dukakis as Sec. of Commerce.
Zell Miller, who is a Democrat pretty much in name only, doesn’t really strike me as a likely candidate.
Ha! That would be good for Saturday Night Live also.
While we’re on the topic of hypothetical Cabinets, had George Wallace won the 1968 election, who would he have included in his Cabinet?
Elliot Spitzer for Attorney General!
Actually, I think Clark will end up at the State Department. Defense will be interesting; I’m betting on a career bureaucrat instead of a career politician ending up in the post.
