Kevin Anderson's Hidden Empire...worth reading?

Am considering picking up Kevin Anderson’s Hidden Empire series and was wondering if any 'dopers have read it, and what what thoughts they might have. I’m sort of looking for a new series (though it’s been out for quite a while) and I saw the entire thing at a used book store.

So…thoughts? No spoilers, please, just general impressions and did you think it was a good read?

Sort of, but not really. Parts are good, and they drag you into it and pull you along, but parts are really, really awful.

And the final book sucks big-time.

I only read the first two books, and those more than seven years ago. I don’t recall them being worse than I’d imagined, just different. They weren’t the series I was wanting to read at the time.

I haven’t read the books in question, but I’ve read a few of his books… but only because I’ve read all of the X-Files novels. He’s not a very good writer: you only have to read one or two of his books to figure that out. My gut says that his stylistic problems come from an infatuation with passive sentence structure. It makes for dull reading.
