Kevin & Kell / Pearls Before Swine Crossover

I’m not sure, but I think today’s Kevin & Kell is the first time there’s ever been a crossover (only in the sense of using characters, not a full story) in a K&K strip.

No particular point to this post; I just found the appearance of the crocodile mildly interesting and thought I’d mention it.

I don’t read Pearls Before Swine anymore, so does anyone know if the crossover has ever gone the other way?

I’m not sure I’m reading your parenthetical comment correctly, but wasn’t there a crossover with GPF for a storyline where the Mutex threw Nick and Ki into Domain?

Quite true, & the story is available in TPB/Dead Trees format.

D’oh! You’re quite right.

I must not have had my brain screwed in tight this morning.

This isn’t really a “crossover,” per se. I’d say it’s more of a parody/tribute. Cartoonists make references to other cartoonists’s work all the time. They seem to love it. I know Charles Schulz, for example, was delighted whenever another cartoonist parodied his characters and collected the original artwork from many of those cartoons.

There is also one day each year where different comic strip artists (presumably from the same syndicate) will switch and draw each other’s cartoons.

I’m not sure I’m remembering this correctly, but I seem to recall a particularly brilliant “Luann” drawn by “Zippy the Pinhead” creator Bill Griffith.

Oops, I had it all wrong, according to Wikipedia:

So it was only one day, but obviously it made an impact on me. I figured they did it every year.

And I was wrong about “Luann” too. “Luann” was drawn by Dan Piraro (Bizarro) and Bill Griffith drew “Bizarro.” (“Zippy” was drawn by the creator of “Fox Trot.”)

Pearls Before Swine references other comics all the time.

Yes, but so well, like the Family Circle being in Gitmo for harboring Bin Ladin.

And who was Rat baby sitting for when he sent the kids out for beer, the Family Circle again?

Baby Blues, I think.

Calvin and Hobbes!
