Keyser Soze Needs Yet More Medical Attention

As avid readers would know, my adorable Blue Persian Keyser had an encounter with a dog last year in which he came off very much second best.

So I had a thee legged Blue Persian who was still a knockout in terms of looks. Well, he actually looked really horrible- but he was MY stray.
Came home from our holidays and Keyser was so grateful to see us after two months of being in the cattery. Before we picked him up we asked if he could be shaved- long haired cat and 100 degree temperature it was standard.

A week later I noticed he had a spot on his hindquarter about the size of a 50 cent piece where the fur was a different colour. I thought it may be because he had been snipped a bit close to his skin but because I hate ringworm I took him to the vet who gave the all clear. He gave me a watching brief.

Six weeks later and the patch is still there and the rest of the fur has grown. What is worse he seems to have puncture mark there. I took him back to the vet and while I hold him the vet examines the puncture wound.

The whole lot comes off. I mean fur, skin and heaven knows what else to leave this great throbbing red mass. It surprised the vet and I almost parked a tiger on his floor.

Anyway after sedation cutting and stitching he is home. For some reason the skin had died, and all the tissue around had died. He is not yet out of the woods- he looks like Frankensteins monster with missing legs and scars- but he seems to be bounding around like a kitten.

What becomes of these pets where they turn from your companions into money munchers?

Explain to him that when he is fully recovered he needs to get a job and start contributing to the household upkeep. There’s really no other answer.

When a pet’s medical bills become unmanageable, they either go without care or get put down. Though I can’t really imagine that wound debridement, closing, and meds costs any more than boarding him for 2 months.

You have a Turkish mafioso Persian??

Thanks for sharing. Our cats may be in charge of our lives and long may they reign.

Ah, Cicero. What becomes of them? They go deeper into your heart.

Oh, he stays. The procedure cost about $400 (this vet is very good and normally charges much less than other surgeries).

He owes me too much now to consider getting rid of him unless something really bad for him happened.

And I now own the ugliest cat in the suburb!

Now that he has the fame (and the name) he needs the fortune. Get yourself a cat wrangler.

Possibly a result of a spider bite. One of my kitties (no longer in this world) many years ago developed a spot on his belly about the size of a quarter that was necrotized tissue. It also had a puncture-like wound in the middle. The vet said it was most likely caused by a spider bite which caused the surrounding tissue to die.

…so forget the cat wrangler, Cicero. Your cat’s already Spiderbait.
