My brother posted about some rock music that’s been featured on television recently. In response to a question I asked about one of the tunes, he replied:
“Barbarians sang Kick Out The Jams on Xena. It is on broadcast TV so there was no swearing. They did a pretty good job. Even sang …with a mic in my hand…when they had no mikes. I wanted to see who really sang it but they put it in a small box in the corner of the screen and showed previews of the next show.”
We both have the original MC5 recording of the tune, and he has the Blue Oyster Cult cover, so I doubt that either version was used on the Xena episode, which, he said, ran 2 or 3 weeks ago.
So, who sang Kick Out The Jams on Xena? And is this version available anywhere?
i believe the cast sang it, or if not, they had session musicians do it. i doubt that it’s available on cd…now. xena fans are rabid. it might turn up on cd at a later date. email the show’s producers. maybe if they get enough feedback, they’ll do it.
there were other ‘popular’ songs in that episode too. i seem to remeber either a bee-gees or an abba song too.
this is why i have a minidisc recorder hooked up to my tv.
henry rollins and bad brains did Kick Out the Jams on the Pump Up the Volume soundtrack too.
