Kid flying camera equipped drone over beach assaulted for being a pervert.

Story here.

Kid’s phone video of incident here.

I may be an old fogey, but I’m siding with the kid on this one. That woman is nuts.

What gets me is that even if the kid was doing what the woman suspected (filming woman on the beach), it’s still a public beach. He could have walked up & down the beach getting better shots with his phone camera.

Agree. The woman is nuts.

The woman’s reaction was inappropriate. She should have called the cops and waited.

Taking secret pictures of semi nude people is voyeurism and there should be some charge the cops can use. Especially if there are kids at the beach. Public nuisance?

Walking around with a camera phone taking photos of body parts is a good way to get attacked. I’ve seen the lifeguards at beaches ask the perverts to leave. Just like they chase off the drunks and other jerks. They try hard to keep it family safe at beaches.

If the lifeguard’s instructions are ignored then this is the type of obnoxious activity that the cops need to stop. Otherwise people will react violently and the situation escalates. Nobody wants a family day at the beach spoiled by an ugly incident.

The video was from 50’ up, and it was a remote-controlled helicopter, not a Stealth bomber. It was a panoramic scenic view of the “landscape.”

No. Merely taking pictures of people in a public place is not enough to sustain a criminal charge. So far as I am aware, “public nuisance” is more a tort, a civil wrong, and not a crime.

There is a crime in my state called “common nuisance,” but it refers to maintaining a residence frequented by habitual drug users.

I lived in Falmouth Mass on Cape Cod. We used to walk about 1 1/2 miles to the beach. I was a young kid. I took my swim lessons there.

The lifeguards enforced the rules. No food or drinks directly by the water is one I remember. I’d guess open containers of alcohol were a no. Some beaches have beach patrol that drives by in a truck. There are people hired to maintain order at the beach.

I doubt criminal charges were filed. Someone in charge firmly asking the person to leave usually does the trick. If they refuse then the cops deal with it.

Can some stalking statute be used? Pictures were without consent and intended to be of a purely prurient nature. Honestly? Kid needs to be jailed a few nights & the case publicized as a warning to any and all cam-type paparazzi stalker perverts.

Here’s one of his perverted videos: Hammonasset Quadcopter - YouTube

I’ve never been real keen on people flying rc aircraft over me. I’ve seen enough of them crash that they make me nervous.

The issue will only heat up as times goes by. Real Estate is using them to film listings. My local tv station used drone footage to show tornado damage a few weeks ago.

Like anything else there are legitimate uses of the technology. There are also bad uses, like spying on people and intruding into private spaces. My backyard is private property. IMHO I don’t want some jerk with a drone photographing my family in my backyard.

The use of drones obviously will need clarification by state lawmakers and maybe the FAA.

Though with a name like Austin Haughwout, getting your ass kicked must be an accustomed eventuality.

What is the difference between a remote control aircraft and a drone?

Off the top of my head would be the method of control. A drone relies on a camera where an r/c aircraft uses line of sight.

What else separates the two?

“Drone” is a scary word. “R/C aircraft” is a hobby.

The camera is what sets drones apart.

I had a rc plane when I was a kid. Had a tether and used Cox glow fuel. We only flew it in big open areas. like the softball field.

The kid mentioned in the OP? Jail?! The kid did nothing wrong. The lady violently assaulted a minor - including tearing his shirt half off. She should be put on a list, spend time in jail, and hopefully become known around town as “that crazy bitch you should probably not associate with”.

The only reason so many news reports call it a “drone” is because drones are topical and slightly scary. “Teenager Assaulted for Flying Remote Control Helicopter” wouldn’t get as many clicks.

She should go to jail. She’s lucky he decided to just film and not hit her back.

Wow. This cunt pins a child to the ground and scoops up dirt and rocks and shoves them in the child’s mouth, and she is only charged with third degree assault? That’s a misdemeanor with up to a year in jail. Fuck that.

I would prefer first degree, at the very least. You have a kid breathing rapidly because of your attack, fear, shock, and so on, and then you start stuffing his mouth with dirt and debris. The possibility of his choking and dying are not remote.

A 5 year minimum sentence for a felony is the least she deserves.

Some redneck saw me taking pictures of my kids at Six Flags years ago, and accused me of taking pictures of his wife. Sorry, dude, I’d rather see Tubgirl 9 times instead of a picture of your beast of a wife. I explained the law to him, but he just grabbed me and tried to steal my camera. I pressed charges and had him arrested.

I just don’t know WTF makes people think they have a magic anti-picture bubble around them, and they get to go all Alec Baldwin on someone just because they don’t like it.

Her court date is next week. I can’t wait to see what happens.

That was cool.

Wow, your life sure is exciting! Please keep us posted as to how the trial turns out.

I don’t think the kid was doing anything illegal. The woman, on the other hand, committed assault and battery (depending on the jurisdiction).
