I’m not sure where to post this. Is Cafe Society the place for sports items?
This has been around for a while, but this kid outdoes the dunk competition from the NBA All-Star Game by a bunch.

Wow. Any idea how tall he is? Or how old he is for that matter?
No, he doesn’t. That stuff is standard dunk contest fare. He borrowed the “stick your arm down the rim” dunk from Vince Carter. Tons of people have done the “jump over somebody” dunk. The jump from near the foul line isn’t standard, but it’s not unique either. And there were definitely better windmill dunks at the contest the other night; Josh Smith’s winning Dominique-style dunk was really good.
He’s 6’5" and has a 40" vert according to http://www.herald.ns.ca/cgi-bin/home/displaypackstory?2004/07/29+101.raw+Under21+2.
The thing to note about the foul-line dunk is that he jumped off of two feet. Sure he was a step inside the foul line, but I’ve never seen anyone attempt that dunk off of two feet…or attempt to throw it down Superman-style ala MJ. Absolutely sick.
Vince Carter is the only guy in the NBA who could possibly match this guy’s raw hops.
Doesn’t anyone remember Mugsy Bogues? The guy is 5’-7" and won a dunk contest against MJ and Dominique. THAT is a vertical. Josh Smith is really good, like Marley23 said, but too many big names like Kobe, LeBron, Vince, T-Mac et al didn’t compete this year. It shouldn’t affect how we judge the contestants, but can anyone here really say that Josh Smith still would have won if he was competing against the top players in the league? I’m not saying he couldn’t have competed, I’m just not sold that he still would have won. Just MHO
Damn. I’m 6’5" and consider myself fairly athletic and I can barely touch the rim.
You’re thinking of Spud Webb. Mugsy Bogues was 5’3" and couldn’t dunk as far as I know.
