I dunked a basketball today!

For some odd reason, I have always wanted to dunk a basketball. In the past year I have come close: within a few inches, but I could never quite do it. I went into the gym today, and it was the same story: close, but not quite. I remembered watching Celebrity Fitness Club on VH1 the other night and I remembered the trainer talking about being able to poop 2 pounds (he was being sarcastic referring to someone not losing very much weight). I tried this out. I went to the bathroom. Came back and tried. I did it! I ended up dunking 3 times.

For anyone curious, I am 6’2 (74 inches), 188 pounds, and somewhat long arms (76.5 inches)

That’s my story for the day.

If you didn’t do a 360 or jump from the foul line it doesn’t really count.

Yes, but what about the basketball?

Stop bragging, he’s only my height!

I dunked twice in my life, at practice the day I found out I had gotten into my top choice college, and one other time that same year.

Somewhat related hijack:

Going off what UncleBill said, the only time I ever tossed a perfect 8 on rifle (I was a high school colorguard maven) was when I was really, really pissed at my dad. I just went outside, tossed hard as I could (without over-prepping), and nailed the sucker. I guess anger – as well as elation and large bowel movements – gives you extra strength and ability.

Back to dunking:

I work for a small city as a recreation leader for the gymnasium facility. We have a zero-tolerance NO DUNKING rule for basketball, since it damages the rims/backboards and we can’t afford to repair them every other week. When I see the guys with the huge egos gradually go from lightly touching the rim to outright grabbing it, I threaten them with the two-month ejection that dunking carries.

One time this one dude asked me: “How the hell am I supposed to put it in without grabbing the rim? It’s my natural inclination to touch it when I’m putting the ball up!”

I consulted with all the other ego-laden basketball players standing around me, and they all agreed that it takes more skill to “float” the ball in rather than outright dunking it because it requires more control and height.

He dunked anyway. He was ejected.

Grats, cvbster, and dunk to your heart’s content! Just not where I work, tho!
