Kids Books without Characters

Can anyone think of any good (or not so good, I guess) children’s picture books that don’t have any people or animals in the pictures? Not including stuff like baby’s books about household items or tractors or anything, please.

The Brave Little Toaster

Do you mean no people or animals at all, or that the people or animals are not characters in the book? I ask because the classic Goodnight Moon has some kittens and a mouse, but they are more like props than characters.

There are plenty of non-fiction books, like books about the planets or vegetables or where trash goes. There are story books featuring robots, aliens, monsters, etc. which aren’t technically people or animals. Books like “Ten Black Dots” or “Little Cloud” or “It Looked Like Spilt Milk” are imaginative rather than factual and not really character based.

When my son was very little he had a book called “Trucks” (or something like that) which had no characters or words - just pictures of a truck getting filled up at loading dock, traveling through a city, and eventually being unloaded of the boxes of tricycles it carried. I made up a story to go with the pictures, and my son loved it - but my wife didn’t like it, mostly because my son expected her to tell the story just the same way I did.

Um, The Missing Piece? I’m not sure if a circle and a triangle count as characters under your definition. Can I ask why you are looking for books with this specification?
