Kids playing in the Street (Mild)

Why are kids always playing baseball in the street by my house? There is a church right down the street that has an empty field and another church that has a baseball field. Both of these are almost always empty. Both churches are totally fine with anybody using these fields (providing they behave). What is up with these kids? Why would anybody want to play baseball in the street? 1.) It is too narrow, especially with all the trees, which make only the street playable. 2.) They have to stop every time a car comes by. 3.) Sliding on the street would hurt.

I even suggested they try one of the fields. Did they? No. I am not some old crab who doesn’t want the kids to have fun. But why play baseball in the street when there is a baseball field that is almost always open?

When I was a kid, playing in an actual nearby field made it somehow too formal for the screwing around we were actually doing.

Once we were on a field, suddenly you had to form off teams and follow rules. That wasn’t the point.

How old are the kids in question?

It is possible that even ‘down the street’ is too far for parental comfort. Or god for bid they should have to do anything more than stick their head out the front door and yell when they want Johnny to come home.

Streets are for cars, not for play time.

If they were intended for playing, they wouldn’t be called ‘streets’.

and I’ll bet these snot-noses curse at you or flip you off when you drive through their game.

oh, that’s probably just MY neighborhood. Ever get flipped off by a 6 year old? It’s surreal, at best.

What really pisses me off is kids that ride their bikes in the middle of the street. I dont quite mind if they are off to the far side and are careful, but in my neighborhood, there are some really stupid kids. Today, I was driving and some kid (between 12 and 13) on a gas powered scooter turns and makes a circle less than 20 feet in front of my car. Its a damn good thing I was paying attention. Even though I was only going 15 or 20 mph, i had to slam on my breaks.

It also really pisses me off when you see really young kids acting like total badasses and flicking cars off and doing stupid things in the streets. Again today, coming home from an errand, There was this kid standing by the road and trying to act all big and buff (and honestly, he was not even close). At the same time another kid on his bike darts out in front of me. Where the hell are these guy’s parents!

Usually, a good idea when you are driving.
