So, I’ve been advised to start my dysgraphic third-grader on learning keyboarding skills. The school uses software that the teacher thought was named Right Type or something like that, but she wasn’t sure (keyboarding doesn’t normally start until fourth grade). I haven’t been able to find that software, although I found a review of something called All the Right Type that might be what she meant. My daughter does not play video games and in general gets freaked out by timed activities, although I understand that they are probably ubiquitous in this area. She currently types with a very slow two-finger method (including using the CapsLock key instead of shift - press CapsLock, type one letter, press CapsLock again).
We are a Mac family. Her computer is the only one that is set to a Qwerty keyboard instead of a Dvorak. We figure it makes sense for her to learn Qwerty first, since that’s what the computers at school will use, but software that supports both would be a bonus (I’m willing to get another program for that when she gets to that point, though). The review of All the Right Type mentioned above did not list Mac in its supported systems, although I haven’t gone looking to confirm that.
Online reviews are generally not helping me sift through this somewhat quirky set of requirements. I thought that the Dopers might be able to point me in a good direction. Bonus points for telling me about why a particular piece of software has worked for your kid, and especially for your dysgraphic kid.
