Kids!

Okay, seeing cool Kid stories around, I’m going to share one about my little sisters. Feel free to add your own.

When were trying to move from Grand Ledge to Flint I was away at summer camp and my mother was working. That left my father to keep the house ready for showing to people…and take care of one big dog and two small girls.

thirty minutes before a showing Dad walks down to the bacement and notices the floor is shiny. Its a grey concrete floor. Its not supposed to be shiny. Uppon closer examination my father discovers the carefully applied pattern of PAM cooking spray over the entire bacement. Hilarity ensues.

After learning that the children would and could amuse themselves while he was cleaning before a showing he locked them and the dog in the garage before the next showing. (While I don’t think my dad is a great parent for pulling things such as that, I’ll give him the credit that he did leave them a pile of toys and games and stuff. He’s a crappy parent for different reasons) Checking on them every once in a while he finds nothing amiss until just before the showing when he walks into the garage to find a mural. Not just any mural, an entire garage mural, and the two year old standing on top of the van so that she could finish the work on the ceiling. Naked.

We won’t talk about the permanent green marker mural on her bedroom walls as we were leaving the house for the last time. We just left it.

Kathryn,

I’m always fascinated by your stories and descriptions of growing up with 'Becca and Anna-Banana.

I think they’re wonderful and interesting. Just like their big sis. And I’m sure that you’re having to be responsible as responsible as you were, for taking care of them, will stand you in good stead when you eventually raise children of your own.

I hope you’ll have more interesting stories (either to post to the board, or just in an e-mail to me) on how they’re doing after your winter break.

My siblings and I never got into any such trouble. ahem

That story does make me remember a former boss’s story about his kids. He had four kids at the time, ranging from 5 yrs to 1 yr. IIRC, one day he noticed some of his computer CD’s were missing. Of course, he questioned the kids (who weren’t supposed to be playing with the CD’s). Apparently they were trying to put them into the computer through the little slot in between the floppy drive and the CD drive–it was just wide enough that the CD would fit in and rest on top of the drive. When my boss opened the computer case, he found 3 CD’s wedged in, along with half a dozen assorted coins…
