Um, didn’t he retire from Prarie Home Companion like five years ago? So why in the heck is this boring tub of lard still drawing a salary from Minnesota Public Radio?
This is why taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook for “arts” funding.

He retired from PHC but he was until this week the producer and host of a different show, The Writer’s Almanac.
Plus, quite surely he was involved in Minnesota Public Radio’s fundraising and program development - his access to big donors and usefulness as a door-opener probably still paid for himself and more.
Wow. Basing your hate of somebody whose name you can’t even spell based on a completely wrong premise.
How thoroughly modern.
Indeed, I’ve never been much of a fan, but I can’t see using this as an excuse to de-fund the arts.
This has absolutely nothing to do with whether there should be public funding of arts. How on earth did you draw that connection?
Really, might as well argue for dropping public funding for the Congress, the White House and Department of Defense, among other frequent sites of Men Behaving Badly.
And as for “arts funding” A Prairie Home Companion (the show Garrison Keillor started) was such a monster hit that it made a lot of money for Minnesota Public Radio. For one thing, other public radio stations paid fees to rebroadcast the show. The program is also rebroadcast overseas.
Haven’t you been keeping up? There’s already a thread about this.
And since there’s already a thread, and since it’s attracting a much higher quality of discussion, I’m closing this one.
