I normally record the show (among others), but something went haywire and I got 2 hours of dead air instead. Judging by the website, which hasn’t been updated since June 14’s episode, it was another rerun, but I’m hoping someone can tell me who the guests were so I can figure out which episode they reran.
Moved to Cafe Society.

I haven’t listened in a year, but did catch the episode this week while driving. Absolutely was a rerun. and defintely more rock music than their folk or pop sound. but i am terrible with music so no clue about guests even looking through old show list.
Unfortunately, only reruns from here on out, as the show has been cancelled.
Well, that’s unwelcome news, but thanks for sharing. It certainly explains why they’re so far into what would have been their new season with no new episodes.
One less thing to record, I guess. Maybe I’ll put On the Media back on my schedule.
That’s disappointing. I’d assumed the reruns were due to the Coronavirus and the difficulty of recording new live episodes while maintaining social distancing. First Car Talk went away (for completely understandable reasons) and now this. Another long-running public radio show I’ve listened to for decades is going away.
Maybe my local station will put On the Media back on their schedule. They recently dropped it to make room for It’s Been a Minute.
I’m not that unhappy the show was cancelled. I enjoyed Prairie Home Companion but not this show. (I know roughly the circumstances under which Garrison Keillor was fired, but I liked his show nonetheless.)
Keillor was never fired from A Prairie Home Companion. He had already retired and made Chris Thile his replacement host a few years before the allegations about him came out. Although when that happened they immediately changed the show’s name and dropped all the old bits carried over from when Keillor hosted. And Keillor was fired from another poetry related show he hosted, so you’re probably conflating the two.
I did kind of miss the Minnesota jokes and general Midwestern-ness after Thile took over, but I still liked what he had made of the show. That said, Thile was clearly trying to bring in a younger audience. He and I are around the same age and I liked his choice of music for the show, but maybe it wasn’t for everyone.
OK, I liked those old bits.
Here’s a website I discovered a year or so ago
Public Radio Fan
It tells you what’s on at the moment on public radio stations all around the country, and the BBC as well. My local Chicago public radio station started moving my favorite shows around to new times that I didn’t like, so I just started listening to them (online) on stations from Connecticut, from Houston, from New York, from Oregon.
Yes, well that’s all very nice and …
HOLY CRAP, SAYS YOU IS STILL ON THE AIR???
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mr. Downtown. Finding out that this show is still around makes me very glad I opened this thread.
