RIP Car Talk (NPR show)

Wow, I had no idea the older brother was 75. I’m not much of a car fan, and their forced laughter could be a bit grating at times, but it was surprisingly fun to listen to. One of the few shows where call-ins really improved things.

It wasn’t until I heard they’re not going to make new episodes that I realized how I’ll miss it. Reruns will seem so … flat.

Wow - really? They are an institution. Sure, they can be…gushy? But overall entertaining when you are in the car on a Saturday morning…

Sorry to hear that. I only discovered Click and Clack about 10 years ago while driving from Ottawa to Portland, ME, but have been a fan since.

I never would have guessed one was 74.

And by repurposed they mean…old.

I think Prairie Home Companion is ending this year as well. I’ve been listening to those two shows while doing Saturday chores since I was a kid. Sadness.

NOOOO!!!

I loved their yearly reading of the hate mail the NPR snobs sent them.

PHC isn’t going away yet. Keillor had said he would retire in 2013, but has since said he’s reconsidered and has no plan to retire. Even if he did, I believe the intention is to keep PHC running with “guest hosts.”

Very sad.

I’m a big Car Talk fan. I have their podcasts on my iPod, which makes my morning regimen on the treadmill tolerable.

Thanks, Click and Clack, for 25 great years!

We really need longer episodes of Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.

Aw, too bad. Thanks guys for all the laughs. On a side note, their “Car Song” CDs are pretty funny–worth getting now for those days when you find yourself missing the show.

In tribute to the Tappet Bros., their prior appearance on this site.

This, but more importantly, fewer “repurposed” best of’s, even if they have to resort to guest hosts. I want my wait wait’s to be topical, not 6 months old, even if they were originally hilarious!

no.

Sonja Henie’s tutu.

and i’ve got this great puzzler that i’ve been meaning to send in.

I’m just saying, if they could get rid of some show I don’t like, they could hae more Wait, Wait.
Just sayin’.

Crap. First Liane Hansen retires from Weekend Edition last year. Now this.

NOOOOOO! I had no idea that they were that old. I will miss them.

Bummer!! I love cah tahk!

Fifthing this. I thought they were in their late 50s max.

Wow. I only listen when I’m traveling, but I do enjoy the show.

We listening to it nearly every weekend! Even my teenager loves it. But well, I guess after 25 years, they deserve a break.

Thanks for the laughs, Tom and Ray.
