Kim Burrell: any bets that DeGeneres will cancel?

So Kim Burrell is set to appear on the Ellen DeGeneres show on January 5th to sing I See A Victory. The victory however may prove Pyrrhic. Last night she posted this charming little sermon on her Facebook page. (The link is to Youtube so no irritating FB login needed).

At the beginning of the video, Kim appears to suggest that homosexuals will die in 2017.

“I came to tell you about sin,” Kim continues. “That sin nature… That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women… You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted. You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.”

There is a rambling video at the foot of this page which may be intended as a half-assed apology but if so it’s the most unapologetic apology I’ve ever heard.

So will Ellen cancel or not cancel? The right buttons Burrell presses for Ellen are she’s black, she’s a woman, she’s a gospel singer. The wrong button is pretty obvious.

Ellen willl probably hear her out. Obviously Kim has given this penis and breast in the face business a lot of thought. A lot of thought. Mainly at night, long, hot, sweaty nights. I’m sure she has some valuable insights.

Because of this I can’t see any scenario where she doesn’t cancel Burrell. Otherwise she’s going to be doing an episode of Maury Povich.

I’ve seen Ellen pull off being simultaneously nice but biting. With a female comedian whose act was basically insulting people. She created a game where they had to say something good about them.

I don’t know if that could be done with this, but maybe. Have a game where she has to say nice things about gay people.

Are you talking about Lisa Lampanelli? Because that’s not at all the same thing. If you hear Lampanelli off stage she’s actually a nice person and probably friends with Ellen.
