Kindle Fire: Screen Won't Unlock. Cracked Glass.

I have a Kindle Fire (it’s the one they were selling with the special displays–ads). I bought it 13 months ago–so it is out of warranty.

The screen won’t unlock. I’ve tried the reset several times; it doesn’t do any good.

I have a cracked glass. The display is not affected (and the starting image rotates fine). I am wondering if the cracked glass prevents the screen from being able to be unlocked.

Any suggestions of any kind?

Thanks.

Sounds like the digitizer is broken.
I don’t know how easy these are to fix (probably not very).

Thank you beowulff; that sounds the most plausible. The Kindle worked fine before I stored it in a box with other stuff. When moving the box around (or somehow) something knocked into the glass and cracked it (it hadn’t been cracked before). [ADVICE: box tablets up/use protector before storing them!]

As to fixing it there are Youtube videos. But while the guy doing the video had no problems; to me it looked like it would be too easy to apply too much pressure at the wrong place and break something. And the cost of sending it out for repair would be about half the cost of a new Kindle. Considering that there might be another problem than screen digitizer and that a new Kindle would be the latest version–this looks marginal.

Anyway, thanks again!
