And it’s terrific. If you’re not familiar with KoDP, it’s a hard-to-classify computer game set in the fantasy world of Glorantha, the setting of Runequest.
The iOS version is not a port, it’s an update and rework of the game. All of the stuff that makes KoDP a great game is there, re-thought for a smaller touch-screen interface. It’s an immersive game; I spent a three-hour flight playing it and was surprised to hear the pilot announcing that we were beginning our descent; if you’d asked me how long I had been playing I would have guessed a bit more than an hour.
It’s $9.99, which is steep for an iOS game, but I think it’s worth the price. Anyone else trying it? The original game has demos available for both Mac and PC, if you want to get a sense of what you’d be getting into before plunking down your hard-earned cash. I’d played before, so I knew what I was getting.
What irritated me about this darn game was that they did no marketing, and apparently won’t release it on STEAM or something. Darn you people! Let me play your game! I saw a Let’s Play which looked amazing, but apparently you have to jump through more hoops than a circus lion to get a copy. As in, you write to the company by snail mail, pay na fortune, and if they can find a disc lying around in the back closet they’ll mail it back. :smack:
Yep, that’s not an exagerration. I looked up getting the game a few years ago and gave up when i saw the hoops you had to go through. I mentioned the ipod version to a friend of mine over the weekend and he reeled off exactly the same story. You’d swear they were allergic to money or something when it came to the pc version.
You could bug David Dunham and A Sharp about getting it up on Steam; I think it would be excellent there.
Regarding the iOS version… a friend DMed me on Twitter this morning to complain that he’s lost 6 hours over the weekend playing it, and asking for advice on heroquesting.
Yeah, this is one awesomely addictive little game. The fact that the events are tied to a number of invisible factors makes them quite replayable. And I love the age progression of the faces of your Clan Ring. Oh, and the advice. The advice of Tricksters is just bad-ass. Every time something goes wrong, Bastakos is all “I told you this would happen.”
