King of Texas

Did any of you catch “King of Texas” last night, with Patrick Stewart? What did you think of it?

They obviously cut the crap out of it, but it was still an interesting concept.

I liked Patrick Stewart as Lear, although I’d really rather see him in a traditional showing of the play.

I caught the last half-hour or so of it, a good fifteen minutes of which was devoted to commercials. Obviously not enough to make an informed judgment. Though it’s just not King Lear without “I am a very foolish fond old man…” or “Howl, howl, howl! O you are men of stones!” or “Never, never, never, never, never!”

That said, Stewart did seem pretty cool, though his accent sounded a bit dodgy. Has he ever played Lear in a regular production? I think he’d be great…

I’ll have to check to see if they’re showing it again, as I would be interested in seeing what they did with the rest of it.
