Why didn't someone tell me about Rupert Goold's "Macbeth"?

Patrick Stewart in the title role! Kate Fleetwood as Lady Macbeth! The title character’s paranoia portrayed as a Stalinist purge that would give Uncle Joe himself a moment’s pause!

The fact no one here bothered to tell me about this makes me think you’re a bunch of jerks. But, since I am not a jerk, I’ll tell those of you who might not have seen this: Goold’s “Macbeth” is on Netflix streaming, as well as Amazon Prime. Go watch it right now.

My only gripe with this adaptation, and it’s one that couldn’t be helped, is that Lady Macbeth is broken so early in the film. Fleetwood’s Lady Macbeth before the assassination is so attractive, and so terrifying, that she absolutely steals every scene she’s in - after the killing, she doesn’t really get anything quite so fun to do. (Though the banquet scene, when she’s trying and failing to hold Macbeth together, comes close). That’s just the way the play works, though.

I remember it getting mentioned here after airing on PBS. (Ticked me off, too; someone else beat me to saying how awesome the sandwich-making scene was.)

I was too distracted by Rupert Murdoch’s “Macbeth.”
Oh, wait, that’s his real life.

Here you go. I enjoyed it quite a bit, watched it with my kid who was studying the play in high school.

Yup. I was deeply conflicted for that one. On the one hand, Stewart was scary. On the other, that sandwich looked tasty!

As you can see from that other thread, I tried to tell you. :stuck_out_tongue:
