King's/Straub's Talisman: movie in pre-production

I’m not sure how I feel about this, as The Talisman is one of my all-time favorite books.

If the casting goes well, it could be very very good. If not… well, it could be a typical Stephen King movie.

Obligatory IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384580/

Also, Secret Window is being made into a film with Johnny Depp as Mort. Could also be very good… could be horrible.

What do you think? Who would you like to see as Travellin’ Jack? Wolf? Lily? Speedy? Uncle Morgan?

I’d like to see an unknown as Jack… we need some fresh kid faces out there. Please don’t let it be a Culkin or Haley Joel Osment (who’s a bit too old for Jack anyway.) Wolf… could be more difficult. He should look like Jeff Goldblum but be 20 years old. Meryl Streep would make a good Lily, or Glenn Close. Speedy should be Scatman Crothers but he’s no longer with us. How about Melvin Van Peebles? Sloat should be a big name, probably… maybe a Harvey Keitel type.

Thoughts?

I wonder if Richard Pryor would be up for Speedy.

Jordan Walker Ross as Jack?

As for Wolf, how about Scott Cohen (Wolf from The 10th Kingdom)?

I always figured Wolf would be a “loomer.” Are there any Andre the Giant replacements out there?

Michael Clarke Duncan comes to mind.

OK, I’ll bite. What’s a “loomer”?

There is a chance that it will be ok as long as King hands it over to a competent director and then butts the hell out. King is a decent writer, but an absolutely crappy director. Consider movies based on King stories that turned out pretty darn good (Stand by Me, The Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile come to mind). Good movies because (IMHO) King stayed out of the way. On the other hand, I can’t think of a single movie that he has been directly involved in that didn’t suck. I just don’t think that he gets the visual medium

My guess is it is either some big dude that looms over you or the apprentice in charge of threading the weaver’s loom.

As a total aside, I have always wanted to see this movie made but really really wanted it to be animated.

He looms. Looming over people. Being vaguely threatening by dint of size.

Same here but I think having this as an animated feature would kill it. It would have to overcome the “animated movies are for kids” mentality.

SIGH, I know. I reallu wish that people would get over that one. :frowning:

That’d make it interesting when Jack takes Wolf to see The Hobbit. Or would they update it and show the live-action LOTR over animation?
