In 1978 I visited the Exploratorium, an interactive science museum in San Francisco. One audio exhibit included a narration apparently from that collection of Kipling’s stories:
There was no corn or melons or sugar cane or any of the small huts such as we have all seen…
Fa [?] the elephant…where he blew with his trunk the trees fell…
That of all things he most feared–man. And there was a mutter of agreement…
I recently found a copy of Just So Stories in a local library but couldn’t find the text, and the story titles, in the Table of Contents, were no help.
Are there any Dopers familiar enough with Kipling’s writings to identify this text? Thanks very mnuch.
I found this. From kipling’s * How Fear Came*, from the Second Jungle Book
Thanks, Arden.
I live to serve.
Nailed that one Arden Ranger. I thought I was the only one who liked Kipling in these politically correct times. I love the jungle books but Kim is my favorite.
