Kirkland handcrafted beer at Costco. Thoughts?

I’ve had both the Kirkland and Gordon Bierch mixes–for some reason, I preferred the Gordon Bierch-branded ones. Hopefully they’re different in some way?

Here it was only available in a sampler. 2 of the 4 beers were good, 1 was not very good and 1 was damn near undrinkable it was so bitter.

So maybe it depends on what kind of beer you call ‘good.’ We’re not fans of bitter beer at our house and the Kirkland we got all leaned toward bitter/hoppy.

Our Costco is inconsistent with stock, so sometimes we buy beer there if they have something decent, otherwise we go to Target or the grocery store.

hmmm, after almost finishing my first case, the conclusion is that I probably will spend the extra $5 and pick up cases of beers I really like such as Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Kirkland brand was not bad, but the IPA isn’t as good as Sierra Nevada, the Amber certainly ain’t Anchor Steam, Hefeweizen is ok but not in my normal beer rotation (and I prefer Paulaner Dark), and the German Lager is ok but not great. So, while price performance is decent, I tend to drink what I like to drink. CostCo has enough beer I like to drink at a good price that I don’t need to compromise on Kirkland brewskis.

The other problem is that I prefer beer with a lower octane, say 4% alcohol level. The Kirkland stuff is all 5%+

I’m with you. For a few bucks, we’ll buy something we know we like. I think we made fish batter with the last few bottles of the Kirkland stuff. But we don’t mind high octane.
