Kitten in the office!

There used to be a lot of library cats, but I guess now with people being sensitive to allergies and all they’ve sort of fallen by the wayside. I wish my library had a cat.

You have no. idea. how funny it would be to have the Regular Patrons go to sleep in the chairs and then watch the cat jump up and bite their fingers like my boyfriend’s roomate’s cat does to me. I’d just watch that all day.

Post pictures of your little fuzzerhead on Shopcat.

Prepare to burn the next hour of your life looking at kitties on Shopcat and commenting on how cute they are! My fave is the nursing home kitty.

Ladies and gentlemen, the sequel to Snakes on a Plane:

:stuck_out_tongue: I get enough of that when I’m talking to you. I don’t think other people need to have it inflicted on them.

On the other hand, I would also very much like to have an office kitty.

“Oh, your chips were stale? Let’s ask Mittens if I give a damn. Mittens, do I give a damn? … Mittens says no.”

Ostectomy. -Otomy means to cut into something, -ectomy means to remove it.
We always have kitties in our office. The clinic cat, a polydactyl, thinks he owns the place and we are all there for his amusement. Most of the time he’s fun to have around but when he wants to have a stare down with a hospitalized cat or take on a big dog, he has to be locked in his cage.

We also frequently have kittens that we are raising until they are adoptable age and we’ll let them run around in a spare room or the lounge. Going into the kitten room for a bit of playtime is always good for stress relief.

Thanks, Wile E! For some reason, I can never remember that word. Aren’t polydactlys wonderful cats? Every one I’ve ever met had a wonderful puuuuuuuurrsonality. Yogi is my teddy-cat, he gets to come into the main part of the house now and then to sleep with the Mama. He’s a good snuggler and doesn’t wake me up to play. Well, not too often.

Such an adorable cute little kitty witty she is

I have a kitten in my office (since I work mostly from home). She’s about 8 months old now and about 7 pounds or so (already!). She likes to burrow in my files, steal all my pens and pencils, and smack things off of my desk.

She just can’t seem to understand what about that stupid monitor and keyboard could possibly be more interesting than she is.

Well, and she’s right…but I gotta earn a living somehow

My supervisor has two Yorkies that think the office is their second home. When she was away on vacation with the dogs, you could tell they were smiling when she brought them back to the office.

The Vachss dog program came about when a blind volunteer brought her seeing eye dog with her. Severely abused children who could not talk to people would talk to the dog. When the volunteer left, Alice Vachss got a retired seeing dog, thus starting a program of training “seeing eye dogs” to lead children out of a darkness far worse than physical blindness.

My sister used to work at the PetSmart corporate office in Pheonix. There, you’re allowed to have fish, bird, reptiles and rodents all teh time in the office. On Fridays you’re welcome to bring your dogs or cats. Some dogs with special needs (separation anxiety, a seeing eye dog puppy raiser) were allowed to bring their dogs in all the time.

Lisa said a temp came in recently, thinking this was a temp-to-hire job (it wasn’t) within the first hour she was complaining about the type of assignment and that they “had animals in the office! That’s digusting. I don’t like animals” Not someone who would fit in with the PetSmart corporate culture.

I like the big gray catboy from the bookstore. Is it some state law in Oregon that all businesses must maintain an on-premises cat? What about rock clubs?

Also, is this the same part of coastal OR where if you move there and you’re not a fundie, they cut you dead?

I like reading the stories about work places with cats; it sounds like they are almost universally made a better place to work by the addition of a cat. I particularly liked the story of a police station in Victoria with a pretty grey kitty - they mention what a great stress-reducer she is for people dealing with stressful situations all day. I can imagine!

American police stations would never have cats, because police culture here is more narrowly defined. Our cops are dog people. Command and control. Cats don’t fit into their world. For stress relief, they have pistol ranges and corner bars.

Was I so non-obvious that you had to explain it?
