Okay, it’s just one cat, and it’s on the Vomit Comet, not in space, but it’s pretty funny, nonetheless. http://216.40.242.213/mirror/cat.mov
Cooooool!
Looks like it’s ‘land on my feet’ mechanism makes it spin faster and faster in weightless environment.
“Get me-owt of here!!!”
Poor kitty.
Bet thats one pissed off pussy.
We have two cats. One would have LOVED that experience. He’s way overweight, and pretty much plops to the ground whenever he has to stay in one place for more than five seconds. The other one (who is VERY active) would have HATED it.
I hope one of those people is the cat’s owner. Then they could enjoy the suprises the cat had for them the next day. Suprise! in the bathtub. Suprise! in the laundry basket. “Are these shoes new? Suprise!”
That one guy looked a little too enthusiastic about throwing the cat at the wall. You’re in simulated zero-g, after all, you don’t need to shove that hard!
My girlfriend is one of THOSE people – you know, a “cat” person.
I’m torn between sending this to her or pretending I never saw it. Would she be angrier that a cat was subjected to such experimentation, or angrier that her boyfriend is laughing so hard about it and sent it to her knowing it might make her mad? That final spin the poor kitty goes through is pretty hysterical. For the record, I’d trade places with him in a heartbeat!
Send, or not send. Send, or not send…
I’ll have to watch it again.
THIS is what science is all about!
EZ
Okay, I have to admit this is an amusing video, but I can’t help feeling bad for that poor cat.
You can tell by the body language that cat is just freaked out of its little kitty mind. The flailing limbs trying desperately to work their way to the ground, the stiff tail… I feel bad for it.
Still, Kitties in Spaaaace! Should be on cable.
Aw poor kitty! giggle I hope they were trying to actualy learn something useful. E.g./ about how one’s brain determines orientation in space. Kitties land-on-my-feet instincts are pretty remarkable.
Now if only they’d strapped some buttered toast to that cat’s back…
My God! It’s the long-thought-impossible Reactionless Drive! We’ll be able to go to Mars and find out what happened to all those space probes!
Actually, what’s really wrong with this whole thing is that poor cat is on a leash!!!
So, Confuse-A-Cat Ltd. is developing new methods?
Does anyone know an alternate source of this file? The link no longer works.
Nope, but I’ve got a copy of it on my harddrive, and if you can handle a 2 meg file, I’ll be happy to email it to you.
Thanks but I just found a cached copy on my PC. (I’d seen it earlier but I wanted to show it to someone else.)
I wonder why they took it down, I would’ve liked to see that…
