Kitty Carlisle has died at 96

Bill Cullen, that’s the name. Thanks!

Orson Bean.

Is that the one? Or are you thinking of Gene Rayburn?

She apparently kept her wits about her til close to the end; when I was in Atlanta in November she was appearing in a one woman show at the Alliance Theater. I would love to have seen it but didn’t know about it in time for tickets. (I understand she even discussed previous taboo things like her husband’s homosexuality and the McCarthy hearings.)

Tom Poston.

A few years ago I read a magazine article about what she had been up to. I was very suprised to hear that she was still alive and kicking. I too remember her from What’s My Line. I only hope that I can live such a long life, although I must say that if an oracle were to tell me that I would live another 53 years, I would be ecstatic, but also in complete awe of that fact. But, damn, I would love to be around that much longer to see what amazing (or horrific) things that the human race would come up with!

Wasn’t the 4th guest someone who rotated in and out? I seem to recall Bennet Cerf was always there, but the 4th guest was always someone like Steve Allen, Orson Bean or Bill Cullen.

And I’m showing too much age, but it was Dorothy Killgallen before Peggy Cass.

So sorry to hear that, but it’s wonderful that she lived such a long productive life!

Each time I saw her on To Tell The Truth, I was amazed by her class and beauty, and I really enjoyed her humor!

For the past decade, when Mom & I did our annual L.A. visit to my brother, she would usually be performing. I kept mentioning going to see her & it kept being vetoed. Good Bye, Kitty, and God bless!

And now, I really miss Eve not posting, because I’d be willing to bet that Eve has some great stories about her.

Has it been revealed who the other party in the bar fight was where Ms. Carlisle Hart died? Rumor says Gloria Stuart, but Olivia de Havilland was seen acting mysteriously a few blocks away and with a bloody lace and silk glove in her Bronco. (Those 90 something upscale female biker bars are bad news.)

Only you or Eve could’ve come up with something that diabolical AND gotten away with it!

Did I see here on Good Morning America (or its ilk) a age 90-something? She was in a leotard and did a split, to promote elder physical fitness.

I miss her. With all the asperity and attitude-mongering that has gone on lately here, it’s like one was a constant reader (;)) of Dorothy Parker’s column, then flipped one’s newspaper open one day to find out that they have dropped it and substituted Rush Limbaugh.

I’ve been awaiting Eve’s post since I heard the news. I hope one is forthcoming.

I don’t know how check this, but I imagine Kitty Carlisle was the last surviving Marx Brothers co-star.

I think Eve is on hiatus.

Henry Morgan? Ralph Bellamy?

I believe that was her, though I didn’t see the program you mention. I recall reading once that she started each day with exercises and was very flexible and did things like lifting her feet above her head while on the floor, etc.

Did they also show footage of her getting up, or just tactfully go to commercial?

According to Wiki and some obits, her boyfriend of the past few decades is a megamillionaire banker who’s still alive at 104.

The line-up from my childhood was “Tom Poston, Peggy Cass, Orson Bean, and Kitty Carlisle–and the host of To Tell the Truth, Bud Collier.”

Right. And *What’s My Line? *was Arlene Frances, Bennett Cerf, Dorothy Kilgallen, and . . . sometimes Kitty Carlisle, sometimes Henry Morgan, or several others. And the host was John Charles Daly.

Am I the only person who remembers Dorothy Kilgallen?
