Kitty Carlisle has died at 96

Just heard this on CBS Radio. My main memories of her were from the old “What’s My Line?” show, but apparently she continued performing as a singer for a very long time.

Obligatory Marx Brothers citation.

I loved her on “To Tell the Truth.” She was a very classy lady with a sense of humor. I am ashamed to say that I’d assumed she died many years ago.

I was just reading about her recently in, I think, Vanity Fair. She looked great with an unlined face and seemingly healthy glow, and was still sharp of mind and seemed very happy with both her current life and the past. And she was still performing regularly at a club in New York whose name escapes me at the moment. I’m sorry to hear she has died, especially since that recent article made it seem she would live productively and well for some time yet.

The first time I ever went to the “theatah” in NYC, I was crushed that everyone wasn’t dressed like Arlene Francis and Kitty Carlisle. That’s why I always dress for the city

She was a classy dame, to be sure…there was a great article about her in a recent issue of “Vanity Fair”.

I would like to think she, Pat Buckley & Nan Kempner are somewhere - watching over couturiers everywhere.

A great photo from What’s My Line…talk about memories!

Same here.

I’m glad to hear she actually lived a long life.

And the difference in perspective is funny, too. From the POV of my-twelve-year old self, she was just a rich, classy old dame; now, from my current 58-year-old perspective, she appears both interesting and beautiful!

What a shame youth is wasted on the young!

I only remember her from game shows from when I was a kid.

“With Bob* (Something) and Kitty Carlisle!”

*May have been Bill (Something), the last name is coming up blank in either case. I got the impression they were somehow a couple, or act, or somehow associated.

I wonder if she’ll continue making appearances on the Simpsons as The lovely and vivacious head of Kitty Carlisle.

By all accounts she was a wonderful woman. I’ve also read a few articles about her over the years in Vanity Fair and she seemed like such a classy lady and great person. I loved her laugh.

That’s Miss Kitty Carlisle to you.

Growing up, I thought her name was Kitty Car Lyle.

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Ms. Carlisle about 15 years ago. She was extremely warm and gracious and genuine. What a wonderful life she had!

Oh, no! Arlene Francis just a few years ago, and now this. A toast to both you classy ladies. […tink!..]

Kitty Carlisle, Bill Cullen, Peggy Cass and ______________.

Bob Cummings?

Bennett Cerf?

In this past Sunday’s NY Times mag, they had an article about her still packing them in at 96. Amazing. But what was her act at this age?

To quote the Brothers Gibb out of context, “Staying Alive.”

“Hello, everybody, let’s play the game!” [Hisses angrily at Bart, causing him to scream and break the jar Kitty’s head is enclosed in)
