I’ve got a female german shepherd that likes to kiss me on the lips. We’ve got a routine where she runs up to me, and I say “Sit, shake!” and she’ll sit, raise a paw, and sit there until I shake her paw. Then she gives me a kiss and I go “Bleh!”. Basically, when I’ve been out for a while, the dog will just run up, sit down, and raise her paw expectantly.
She also dances with me, hopping up and putting her paws on my hips while we dance around in the kitchen. My mom thinks it’s funny.
If there is a greater tendency toward this behavior with formerly feral cats, it might be driven by having the experience of momma cat hunting and bringing food home in her mouth. Non-feral cats will have the experience of getting food from a dish more than from mom.
Cricket was about 2-3 weeks old when I got her - she apparently had a run-in with a lawn mower and fortunately someone found her before infection set in. Her tail had to be amputated and she has a bald spot on her hip where a chunk was cut off, but she had so much spunk and curiosity the vet didn’t want to just put her down. I happened to walk into the vet clinic at just the right time to become her “mama”.
Sugar Magnolia was about 6 weeks old when she just let me pick her up. She is the most adamant about giving kisses - she will kiss the skin off of you if you let her!
