KKK loses the highway it adopted

According to this story, after months of battling for the right to participate (which it won), the Ku Klux Klan got booted from the Adopt-A-Highway program after they failed to actually pick up any litter. What a delicious outcome. I figured that the highway adoption was a publicity stunt from the beginning; looks like I was right.

As repellant as that organization is, it becomes increasingly laughable that the word “supremists” attached to it in any way. This whole situation indicates that white trash can’t be bothered to pick up trash, even when they sign up to do so.

In the interim between them winning the case and losing their stretch of the highway, that part of the interstate was named the Rosa Parks Highway.

Local photojournalists were looking forward to being able to take pictures of Klansmen cleaning up the Rosa Parks Highway. It would have been ironic, dont’cha think?

      • Many of the groups don’t keep the highways picked up. They only have to do it four times a year, IIRC. A local TV station went out and videotaped the trashiest highways and then went and found the groups that were supposed to be keeping them picked up. Many had dropped out of the program in the previous year, but the highway department had never taken the signs down. So judging by the signs it appeared that most of them should have had people cleaning them, but many really don’t.
  • There ain’t really much of any Klan organization near St Louis, unless you think “Lenny, Cleatus and a few buddies” is some sinister organization. The main source of Klan information now seems to be the Southern Poverty Law Center, and their standards for proof don’t seem to be real high; they mainly seem to want to populate their maps. - MC

The joke was on them.

The highway was black.

Euty, you’re bad.
